Eat Healthy Ragi Chocolate Ladoo, Stay Happy
Looking for some healthy, gluten-free dessert recipes? With more people choosing healthier lifestyles, finding nutritious alternatives to satisfy sweet cravings has become more important than ever. While stores are filled with “healthy” desserts, nothing compares to the freshness, taste, and love that go into homemade treats.
The best part? Healthy desserts don’t have to be complicated. Some of the most delicious recipes require just a handful of ingredients and a few simple steps.
This Healthy Ragi Chocolate Ladoo is one such recipe. It is naturally sweetened, rich in calcium, packed with wholesome ingredients, and loved by both kids and adults.
When I was deciding which recipe to publish first on Shakaron, I wasn’t sure where to begin. Then one day, I watched my three-year-old happily asking for another chocolate Ladoo with the biggest smile on his face. At that moment, I knew this had to be my very first recipe to share with you.
This recipe is inspired by my mother’s traditional pinni. Growing up, her homemade pinnis were my favorite winter treat. The warmth of her kitchen and those comforting flavors are memories I’ll always cherish. Today, I try to create the same beautiful memories for my son through simple, homemade desserts made with love.
Whether you’re looking for a healthy snack for your child, a guilt-free tea-time treat, or a nutritious dessert for the family, these Ladoo are the perfect choice.
Why You’ll Love These Ragi Chocolate Ladoo
- Naturally sweetened with jaggery or date powder
- Rich in calcium from ragi (finger millet)
- No refined sugar
- Soft, chocolatey, and kid-friendly
- Ready in under 30 minutes
- Great for lunch boxes and evening snacks
Ingredients
- 1 cup Ragi (Finger Millet) Flour
- ¼ cup Ghee
- ¼ cup Jaggery Powder or Dates Powder
- 2 teaspoons Cocoa Powder
- 3 tablespoons Peanut Butter
- 2 tablespoons oat flour (Optional)
- 2 tablespoons Mixed Seeds (Optional)
How to Make Healthy Ragi Chocolate Ladoo
Step 1: Roast the Ragi
Heat a heavy-bottom stainless steel or non-stick pan and add the ghee. Once warm, add the ragi flour and roast it on low to medium heat for 12–15 minutes, stirring continuously.
The flour is perfectly roasted when it becomes aromatic and starts releasing the ghee back into the pan.

Tip: This is the most important step, so don’t rush it. Properly roasted ragi gives the ladoos their rich flavor and removes any raw taste.
Step 2: Add Oat Flour
Turn off the heat and immediately mix in the oat flour.

The oat flour helps absorb any extra ghee while adding a little extra nutrition. Since oat flour cooks quickly, it doesn’t require additional roasting.
Step 3: Add the Sweetener and Bind
Once the mixture has cooled slightly (warm, not hot), add:
- Jaggery powder or dates powder
- Peanut butter + cocoa powder
- Mixed seeds (optional)
Mix everything thoroughly until the mixture comes together.
If you’re allergic to peanuts, simply replace the peanut butter with almond butter or cashew butter.
Step 4: Shape the Ladoos
Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into smooth balls.
Allow them to cool completely before storing.

Storage Tips
Store the ladoo in an airtight container.
- At room temperature: Up to 5 days
- In the refrigerator: Up to 2 weeks
